Tell us about yourself: How old are you? When did you join JR CrossFit? How often do you make it to the box? What are some of your other hobbies?
I just moved to Texas in July of 2019 to work at Baylor University with the Acrobatics and Tumbling team. I am originally from Richmond, VA and I have lived in Wisconsin and West Virginia over the past five years. I am 26 years old, I joined JR CrossFit in August of 2019 and usually make it to the box about 4 times a week when I am not traveling. Some of my hobbies include watching Netflix, reading crime thrillers, traveling in the summer and I am currently in school to get my masters in Criminology.
What was your workout routine like before joining JR CrossFit?
I really did not have a workout routine before I joined JR CrossFit. I honestly had not been on a steady workout plan since I graduated college in 2016 where I was a student athlete.
What kind of progress (physical, mental, etc) have you seen since you started at JR CrossFit? How do you stay motivated?
I have made so much progress both mentally and physically. However, the mental piece has definitely been the most rewarding for me. Working out has never been my favorite thing to do and I always would find an excuse on why I could not make it to a gym or what was holding me back. Now I am excited to come to CrossFit even on mentally tough days for me. It makes getting through a workout even more rewarding. I have also felt the physical progress my body has made over the past couple of months. I feel stronger and I continue to get better with cardio workouts (something I struggled with in the past). I stay motivated due to accountability from my friends. I see them working out and setting goals and it helps me to stay motivated.
Why did you pick JR CrossFit? What’s your favorite thing about it?
I picked JR CrossFit because they made it feel like family. There was no pressure from any of the coaches and they only wanted me to be better and progress at my own pace. My favorite thing about JR is that everyone around me is so welcoming and it is cool to see everyone continue to get better.
What are some of your CrossFit and fitness goals going forward?
In regards to CrossFit I believe some of my goals is to continue to get stronger and learning how to pace myself throughout my workouts. Being a cheerleader and transitioning into Acrobatics and Tumbling in college, I always enjoyed “lifting weight”. I hope that I can continue to get better with my technique in regards to my olympic lifts as well. Another goal is to continue to work on my cardio endurance. This ties into the mental piece for me and making sure I continue to pace myself at a point that is good for me.
What advice would you give to someone considering joining JR CrossFit?
Do it! CrossFit is for everyone and it has been so rewarding for me. You can find a family at JR and it has made my move to Texas much easier for me. It is definitely a fun place to be.
