It’s time for another Athlete Spotlight! This week, we talked with Cat Witt about how JR CrossFit helped her complete her first Murph this year, her goals going forward, and much more. Read our full interview below.
Tell us about yourself: When did you join JR CrossFit? What are some of your other hobbies?
My name is Cat Witt. I am married and a mom of 3 kiddos and I own and operate Window Genie of Waco. I started my CrossFit journey in September of 2018. I have been on and off, but over the last few months, I have been dedicated a lot more due to being able to be out of the field in my business. I enjoy hunting, camping, riding horses, and anything outdoors.
What are your favorite things about JR CrossFit and the community?
I love the fact that they treat us like family. The encouragement and how they push us is amazing. I am the type of person that needs that. And if I’m doing the movement incorrectly the coaches will correct me so I don’t hurt myself.
What kind of progress (physical, mental, etc) have you seen thanks to CrossFit?
Working out helps me stay sane. I am able to focus and have more energy to keep up with my 3 kids and the business. I have seen physical results as well. I have certain goals and I’m getting there. It’s not a quick process but I am seeing results. I have probably a couple more months before I hit where I want and then I’ll have before and after pictures.
How did JR CrossFit help you stay active and motivated during the coronavirus shut down and prepare for Murph?
I actually rejoined JR in March because I had finally been able to slow down and refocus. I also reached out and got a personal trainer to help me with one on one fitness as well. This has been able to help me get back into shape and hold me accountable. I love the fact that Jai and Kaci let us take equipment home to help us stay on track. It shows how much they love their box and want us to stay up on our fitness. By doing this I was able to complete my first full Murph. I was so excited and proud. I am always wanting to push myself to see what I can do.
What are some of your CrossFit and fitness goals going forward?
I have a spartan race on August 23 in Denver. I am looking forward to completing it. I am starting out with the baby spartan race so it will be only the 5k but it is my first one so I am super excited about it. My recent goals are to run 5 miles which I have just hit. I have never run 5 miles straight and I can now say I have done it. I have a goal of losing 20 lbs I am currently halfway there. I know that muscle weighs more than fat so If I can see the physical results vs the weight loss I am ok with that. I want to be the best mom I can be and that means I need to be in shape to keep up with my little ones or being a great example for them as well.
What advice would you give to someone considering joining JR CrossFit?
I would highly recommend it. There are several different levels and JR treats you like family. My kids love coming here and love visiting their friends. The coaches have always answered any questions or concerns I’ve had. They will show you the movements so you do them correctly and do hurt your self. There are also modified versions so you can work your way up to where you want to be.
