In this week’s blog post, we talked with JR CrossFit coach Izzie about her CrossFit journey, advice for people struggling with motivation, and much more. Read our full interview below:
How long have you done CrossFit and why?
I have been doing Crossfit for 5 years. I love Crossfit because it trains every domain of human performance: strength, conditioning, and gymnastics (bodyweight) volume. Crossfit, unlike other fitness programs, is about building the most functional body that you can to do the things you love and have a high quality of life! The community is uplifting and I have met amazing people from all walks of life through Crossfit.
What is your favorite thing about coaching at JR CrossFit?
I love to see how eager athletes are to learn and improve. I also am inspired to what as people make PRs, develop new skills, and reach their goals. At JR Crossfit, there is a tight community focused on bettering and lifting up each other!
Lots of people are struggling with motivation and struggling to keep up during workouts after quarantine, what advice do you have for them?
With motivation, having an accountability buddy or someone to workout/check in with is so helpful! You can text/message a friend from class to check in and keep accountable to go to class! You can use a friend to help check in on you with your nutrition and how you’ve been eating throughout the week to make sure you stay focused on your goals! Accountability helps to strengthen us when our minds get tired or weak!
What’s your biggest piece of advice to someone who wants to start CrossFit, but is nervous about it?
Come to a Saturday community class! Remind yourself of why you want to start, and remember that starting something new can seem overwhelming and a little scary, but the greatest growth happens outside of your comfort zone. Beginning something like Crossfit is an investment- in yourself and your health. You are beginning something new to become stronger, both mentally and physically, and you will be doing things you never knew you were capable of. You will meet amazing people along the way and will become hooked! 😉
Tell us something about you that people don’t know:
I am half Columbian and speak Spanish! I am not professionally fluent yet but I can hold a pretty good conversation. It is something I want to continue to improve on!
