The coronavirus pandemic is spreading throughout the United States, and we’re taking precautions at JR CrossFit to protect you and help you stay active. We’re putting an increased focus on online training, intro classes, and much more. Here’s everything you need to know.
JR CrossFit Coronavirus Contingency Plan
Phase 1 — Preventative Measures
As detailed below, we’re taking every step possible to protect our members during the coronavirus outbreak — including preventative measures to provide continued service.
- Member Safety
- Staff Safety
- Continued Service
To help us in this, you can stay home if you’re sick, wash your hands, wipe down equipment, avoid signing in at the kiosk, and make no physical contact with other athletes or coaches. Read more below.
Phase 2 — Awareness and Expectations
- Member expectations
- Staff Expectations
- Member Service
- Membership Holds
As part of phase 2, our goals stay the same: make it possible for you to remain active and provide the highest level of service possible. We intend to remain open for the foreseeable future, and continue providing all of our in-person classes. To keep providing this service, we’re taking measures to make sure the gym is as clean as possible, and you can read more about that below.
Phase 3 — Member Service with Gym Closure
- Home Workouts
- Healthy Habit Coaching
- Social Media Engagement
If we are forced to close our doors because of the coronavirus pandemic, we will still offer our level of service to keep you strong, fit, and healthy. We have every intention of helping you through this time with online coaching, programing, and much more.
- Remote workouts at our normal class times
- Daily interactions with your coaches
- Workout tracking
Phase 4 — New Member Service with Gym Closure
And for new members, we intend on making the onboarding process as smooth as possible, even with a gym closure. This includes remote workouts and much more:
- No Sweat Intro classes done via video conferencing
- Elements courses done via video conferencing
- Remote Workouts
- Online Coaching
You can read more about all of these efforts below!
What we’re doing to protect you
At the box this week, you’ve probably noticed an increased supply of Lysol wipes and hand sanitizer at the Pro Shop desk, near the whiteboards, and in the restrooms. It’s absolutely crucial that you wipe down every piece of equipment you touch during mobility, the warmup, and the workout. This includes foam rollers, wall balls, PVC pipes, barbells, bands, lacrosse balls, rowers, bikes, the rig, and anything else you touch.
Coaches will be emphasizing this multiple times during a class, but if you notice that someone forgot to wipe their equipment, please be sure to remind them. This is a team effort to protect everyone at the gym.
Another critical thing you can do is to stay home if you feel sick. This is crucial to protecting everyone and preventing further spread of the virus. Even if you think you feel well enough to make it through the WOD, it’s in everyone’s best interest if you stay at home and come back when you’re feeling 100%.
Other things you can do to protect yourself and everyone else:
- Wash your hands: This seems obvious, but washing your hands before and after the WOD will go a long way in protecting everyone. There’s is soap and paper towels in the bathrooms, and hand sanitizer at the Pro Shop desk.
- Sign in and enter results into Wodify from your phone: This will significantly reduce the number of people touching the computers everyday.
- Avoid handshakes/high-fives/etc
- Avoid touching your face at all
But it doesn’t stop there. JR CrossFit has always been known as the cleanest gym in town, and we’re taking things to the next level. After every class, our coaches will be spraying all of the equipment down. We’re also increasing the number of times we clean the floors. With these efforts, combined with athletes wiping down equipment after every workout, it’s likely that the gym is cleaner than your house.
If you’re staying home, but still want to workout…
We’ve already heard from a few of our members that they plan to stay home for the next few weeks to protect themselves and their loved ones, and that’s a decision we absolutely understand. If you decide to stay home, we still want to make your JR CrossFit membership worth it!
Just be sure to let Coach Jai know of your plans, and she will get in touch with you so you can stay active and involved from home with one-on-one online coaching, including:
- Video conferencing through Zoom and Skype for goal reviews
- Workout programming that you can do from anywhere
- Staying active in the Facebook Group with pre and post workout pictures, meal prepping, and more
- Nutrition planning
- Goal planning
Over the coming days, we will dramatically ramp up our online programming for everyone. This includes WODs you can do from home, online group classes, seminars, and much more. You can expect to see a lot more activity on our social media with all of this. There’s no indication right now that we’ll have to shutdown, but we want to make sure that people can voluntarily stay home if needed, and that we’re prepared to go online-only for all members if we have to.
And if you’re thinking about joining JR CrossFit, we’re even offering our introduction classes through video conferencing as well. This means you can join, learn the CrossFit basics, and get access to at-home WODs all from your phone or computer.
There are numerous benefits to continuing to workout on a regular basis. Working out leads to a stronger immune system, which helps your body battle against illnesses. Regular exercise can also be a fantastic way to relieve the stress that these sort of uncertain situations can cause. If you’re able, we still strongly encourage you to get your workouts in.

It’s an evolving situation
Things are changing at a rapid pace and COVID-19 continues to spread. There aren’t currently any confirmed cases of coronavirus in Waco, but we have to operate under the assumption it will happen at some point. Because of this, it’s important that you stay informed. It’s impossible to know what comes next, and not even the experts know just how bad the coronavirus pandemic will get. At JR CrossFit, we’re doing everything we can to protect our athletes and we’ll share updates through this blog, our Facebook page, and through email as often as possible. At times like this, it’s important for everyone to come together and look out for each other.
If you have any questions or concerns, you can always reach out to Coach Jai or Coach Matt directly. We’ll be updating this page with all of the latest information as it becomes available.
