You most likely started off 2019 with a long list of resolutions aimed at improving your health, fitness, productivity, and more. I have a complicated relationship with New Year’s resolutions. Every year, I lay out a plan of what I want to accomplish, and usually it’s a list that’s humanly impossible. I try to make so many changes to my lifestyle starting on a single day, and it ultimately leads to being overwhelmed and completely falling off the wagon.
Every time I’ve failed at a New Year’s resolution, I’ve been left feeling even worse about myself than before. My self esteem plummets and I have even less drive and motivation to better myself. But every year, I try the same thing again, expecting different results.
In reality, there’s no need to wait until January 1st to start making changes to your lifestyle. Starting your new fitness lifestyle today means you’ll be 3 months ahead of everyone who waits until January 1st to hit the gym. You’ll start seeing results while other people are still making excuses, and you won’t be overwhelmed by the January 1st rush.
We’re about to enter the busiest part of the year with football season, the holidays, traveling, and more. It’s the time of year when it’s easiest to make excuses about why you’re not getting into the gym. But is it really that big of a time commitment?
We’re less than 12 weeks away from the start of 2020. That may not seem like much time at all, but you can accomplish quite a bit during those 12 weeks. Get to the box 3 times per week until then and that’s 36 workouts. Come 5 times per week and that’s 60 workouts, all before January 1st. Those workouts will make you stronger, faster, and healthier, and you might just meet some 2019 resolutions in the process.
If you commit to a plan like that, you’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish by dedicating just a few hours of your week to CrossFit. 5 hours per week at the gym is less than 3 percent of your total week, so what’s your excuse for waiting?
