It’s that time again! Athletes from around the world are getting ready for the annual CrossFit Open. This year, JR CrossFit is shaking things up with an Intramural Open!
If you’re new, I’m sure you are wondering what an Intramural Open is? Internally we’ll be doing the 5 CrossFit Open workouts along with the whole CrossFit world. However, the twist is each person who is committed to the Intramural Open will be on a team. Each team will have a captain, and there will be points awarded each week.
Note* For this in-house competition, points will be awarded primarily on participation- not performance! So if you’re worried about “not being ready” – don’t be! All that’s required is that you show up, work hard, and cheer on your teammates! As you’ll see in the rules below, only the top 3 males and females in each division (Peak and Base) will score additional points for their team.
Our goal is to make this a fun experience for everyone, bring our community closer together, and test the hard work that we put in each week!
The Breakdown
Sign Up (Deadline, Feb 16th)
Sign up for the Intramural Open is FREE at the front desk. Just choose if you’ll be competing Base or Peak. This means when the Open workouts are released you will be following the Base or Peak. If you want to see how you stack up to others around the world, register for the Open here: games.crossfit.com Officially registering for the Open is recommended because your score will always be available to look back on. Plus you get 5 points extra for doing so. Cost of registering for the Open is $20 which you pay online on the CrossFit website.
Draft Day (Sunday, Feb 17)
The week before the Open begins (First workout announced Feb 21st) our four amazing captains (chosen by the head staff) will take turns selecting team members committed to the Intramural Open by drawing.
Post Draft, Draft Party (Sunday, Feb 17)
We’ll kick off the Intramural Open with a good ol’ fashion JRCF Party. It will be at the gym after the rowing class on Sunday at 2:30 pm. Here you’ll find out what team you are on and meet fellow team members who you don’t already know. If you can’t make it, that’s ok! We’ll go live on Facebook to ensure you know what team you’re on. If you miss the event, your team captain will reach out to you!
Launch Party Sunday Feb 17 @ 2:30pm
Potluck & BYOB
Not sure about the weather but we may be able to cook out. Look for details as it approaches.
Days Before the Events
Sign up for a heat –
Coach Matt will assign your heats each week. Be on the lookout for that post via FB every Thursday night or Friday during the day.

Friday Night Festivities (6: 30 to 8:30 pm)
Come dressed in your team colors and show your team pride (this is very important when it comes to your team score)
Complete the workout to the standards set at the beginning of the night
Sign your scorecard
Can’t attend the testing day? The only time outside of Fridays that you will be able to perform the workouts are Thursday immediately after they’re announced. There will be no re-dos. If you have signed up for the actual Open and can’t make that Friday night, then we will allow it only once.
Communication
Each team captain will be given a Facebook page set up by the admin here at JRCF. There each team can communicate and coordinate their spirit and what your team will do every Friday to all be on the same page.
Judging
