It’s time for another JR CrossFit Athlete Spotlight! This week, we talked with Lisa Marroquin about her CrossFit journey, including the progress she’s seen over the last several months, how she stays motivated, and more. Check out our full interview in this week’s blog post:
Tell us about yourself:
I am 35 years old, married to a Marine, I have a 10 year old son, 17 year old step daughter, and 19 year old stepson. But my favorite child is my cat, Kitty Kitty.
When did you join JR CrossFit? How often do you usually make it to the box?
I joined JR Crossfit in July 2017, but unfortunately I wasn’t really consistent until recently. Now I try to go about 5 days a week.
What are some of your other hobbies?
Well, I kind of have a shopping problem, so yeah shopping is definitely my main hobby. I love reading as well, I’m always up for good book suggestions.
What kind of progress (physical, mental, etc) have you seen since you started at JR CrossFit?
These past few months I have really stepped it up. I have lost body fat, gained muscle, and I find myself to not get tired as easily. When I work out I feel so much more confident in myself and that right there is the best thing for any woman!
How do you stay motivated?
Recently, before my 35th birthday I realized that by the time I know it I will be 40 and I don’t want to be one of those moms that “let themselves go”. I know getting in shape later on in life is a whole lot harder than starting now. Also, I want my son, Aven, to see me working out and know how important it is to be active.
What are some of your CrossFit and fitness goals going forward? My Crossfit goal is to stay consistent, to master these difficult movements, and build my endurance. My fitness goal overall is to keep gaining muscle and losing that stupid body fat.
Why did you choose JR CrossFit? What’s your favorite thing about it?
A friend had recommended JR Crossfit to me, so I figured I’d check it out since it was in a convenient location. The reason I stayed with JR Crossfit is because I love the people, I love the environment, I love how at this gym you see everyone rooting for the very last person, tired, really struggling. That’s the type of motivation I admire.
What advice would you give to someone considering joining JR CrossFit?
I know many people get intimidated by the word “Crossfit”, but at JRCF the coaches truly care about everyone’s wellbeing. They don’t care about who lifts the most or who is the fastest. If they see someone with horrible form you get called out on it to prevent any injures that could occur. A big plus is that there are so many awesome people to meet at this box. These people turn into family.
