On Saturday, Coach Izzie will lead JR Crossfit’s Shoulder Prehab Seminar from 11 am to 12 pm. In this week’s blog post, we talked with Izzue to learn more about what to expect during the Shoulder Seminar and much more.
In our interview, Coach Izzie explained that she chose shoulders for her first seminar because they play such an important role in Crossfit. In fact, she said that it is one of the most commonly injured joints in Crossfit athletes.
The Shoulder Prehab Seminar, as Coach Izzie explains, will illustrate how shoulder prehab can help address strength, stability and mobility deficits. Here’s what she had to say in our interview this week:
1. What can people expect to learn and to do at this weekend’s Shoulder Seminar?
You can expect to learn about the basic structure of your shoulder- how it functions, the muscles and structures that support your joint. You will also learn about common shoulder injuries and learn specific exercises to improve shoulder mobility, stability and strength.
2. Why did you choose to focus on shoulders for our first seminar?
I chose shoulders because in my experience this is the most commonly injured joint in recreational Crossfit athletes. I believe a lot of these injuries could be avoided with proper shoulder mobility and strength!
3. What advice do you have for someone who struggles with mobility? How can prehab help play a role in improving mobility?
For someone with shoulder mobility limitations, prehab allows you to work on specific exercises that can improve these limitations. Depending on where you are limited, prehab will consist of stretching and strengthening your body in various positions to improve function and reduce your risk of injury.
4. Can we look forward to more seminars in the future?
Yes! My goal is one a month! I’m thinking October will be all about breaking down the squat so stay tuned 🙂
Again, the JR Crossfit Shoulder Seminar will take place this Saturday, September 12, from 11 am to 12 pm. You can sign up today in Wodify — and don’t forget about Barbell Club and Community taking place at 9 am and 10 am respectively on Saturday as well. Come spend your Saturday morning with us, working out and learning how to get even better!
